Black Female BodyBuilders
Black Female Bodybuilders
Black Female bodybuilders
are a cultural movement that defies
traditions. While many people accept the existence of black female
bodybuilders--i.e., society at large is not used to seeing them--the
sport still has its enemies.
Black Female athletes are finally starting to break into the sports
that were considered male-only. The WNBA has been around for a while
and there has been female boxing for sometime. Black Female
bodybuilders are the confirmation that we are living in a post-modern
society - made up of different pieces and parts are mixed together and
hard to categorize. They are big and muscular and they are graceful and
beautiful.
Black Female
bodybuilders using steroids can experience androgenic
effects, many of which are irreversible, such as facial hair growth,
acne, deepening of the voice, growth of the clitoris, thickening of the
jaw, male-pattern baldness, and so forth. These androgenic effects
result in blurring of familiar dualistic gender lines, and, when
compounded with defined muscularity and breast implants, present us
with a study in cyborg contradictions.
Black Female bodybuilders are often mocked and viewed negatively for
not conforming to traditional norms of feminine beauty and gender
roles. Female bodybuilders are as dedicated as their male counterparts
are. They are as ripped, as shredded, often times better cut per pound
than the men, then why aren’t they fully appreciated like the
men?
